On November 12, the HACC imposed an interim measure in the form of detention with the option of posting UAH 126 million bail on Ihor Myroniuk, a former adviser to the Minister of Energy, suspected in the high-profile corruption case in the energy sector.
If bail is posted, Myroniuk must:
-
appear when summoned by the court, investigator, or prosecutor;
-
not leave Kyiv or Kyiv region without permission;
-
report any change in his place of residence to the court;
-
refrain from communicating with suspects and witnesses;
-
surrender his international passport;
-
wear an electronic monitoring device.
The prosecutor requested custody without bail, or alternatively, bail set at UAH 136,620,000.
He also highlighted the risks to the investigation: potential flight, influence on witnesses, destruction of evidence, obstruction of justice, or the commission of another crime.
During the search of Myroniuk’s apartment, according to the prosecutor, he tore up documents in the bathroom and tried to throw them and his phone out the window. The investigation also points to his contacts with members of parliament, law enforcement representatives, and controlled media.
The defense requested that the prosecutor’s motion be denied, arguing that the suspicion was unfounded, the alleged offense not established, and the risks unproven.
