On October 29, 2025, Roman Nasirov completed his closing remarks in the trial over his alleged involvement in Onyshchenko’s “gas scheme”. The parties have now proceeded to the rebuttals stage. The defense filed a motion requesting Nasirov’s exemption from criminal liability due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, but the court rejected the motion.

The defense also requested the case’s closure and filed a recusal motion against the presiding judge. In addition to rejecting the exemption request, the court limited the defense’s scope, allowing comments only on documents examined the previous day.

The next step in the proceedings will be the final statements of the defendants.

The trial has been in the closing argument stage since February 2025. In April 2025, it became known that Nasirov had been mobilized into the Armed Forces mid-trial, though the order was later revoked. He began his speech in June 2025 and spoke across 13 hearings, four of which were postponed due to the defense’s absence, and five more hearings were delayed at the defense’s request.

Although the statute of limitations in this case expires in spring 2026, Nasirov has repeatedly dismissed his lawyers, requesting time to find replacements, and has continued to file motions for judicial recusals at nearly every hearing. The defense has also sought to re-examine evidence and recall witnesses, of which the court partially granted some requests, allowing several documents to be added to the case file, but rejected the rest.  The court has now allowed Nasirov’s new lawyer, Andrii Kostenko, to comment on the newly admitted documents.
