The NABU and the SAPO have notified a prosecutor from the Prosecutor General's Office and several lawyers of suspicion of inciting bribery. The case concerns a $3.5 million bribe allegedly offered for closing a criminal case investigated by NABU detectives.
According to the investigation, the lawyers, acting in collusion with the PGO prosecutor, offered a suspect in a criminal case to resolve the matter by bribing officials of the SAPO and the HACC to have the case closed.
The bribe was to be transferred in several installments. The prosecutor and the lawyers, acting as intermediaries, managed to receive $200,000 from the suspect before they were exposed by NABU detectives. The suspects’ actions have been preliminarily qualified under Articles 15(2), 27(4), and 369(4) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
