On October 10, 2025, the HACC Appeals Chamber ruled to dismiss the appeal filed by the defense against the verdict handed down to former Member of Parliament Andrii Odarchenko.
The panel of judges also rejected the prosecutor’s appeal.
As reported earlier, in November 2024, the HACC found Odarchenko guilty of attempting to bribe former head of the State Agency for Recovery, Mustafa Nayyem, with bitcoin. The court sentenced him to eight years in prison.
During the appeal hearing, the prosecutor sought to increase the sentence to ten years, arguing that the punishment imposed by the first-instance court was insufficient to correct the convict and prevent future offenses. The prosecutor also dismissed the defense’s claims of alleged provocation by Nayyem.
Meanwhile, the defense maintained that there was no corpus delicti, asking the court to overturn the verdict and acquit Odarchenko. The defense also insisted that Odarchenko had been provoked by Nayyem.
The defendant himself did not attend the appeal hearings in person. He joined only the first session remotely, after which he ceased participating in the proceedings. The case was therefore considered in absentia. It is known that Odarchenko left Ukraine during the trial debates in the first instance and is currently wanted by law enforcement.
